Introduction to Community Development

EDMT5005

Effective home-school-community partnerships improve educational outcomes, particularly for students in disadvantaged communities. Collaborating with families, community groups and agencies enhances teachers' understanding of the community, its people, resources and issues that are important in students' lives. Working together schools and communities engage in building mutual capacity, respect and shared goals. The unit provides an introduction to community development with a focus on experiential learning through fieldwork and projects jointly guided by the unit co-ordinator and staff of small agencies working with schools and communities.
