Mathematics in Early Childhood (EDMT5551)
UNIT OF STUDY
This unit of study assists students to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the development of children's constructions of mathematical concepts and processes at the early childhood level. It provides students with the ability to help young children gain a beginning understanding and knowledge of mathematics and a beginning awareness of the ever-changing technological environment in which we live. Students will explore issues of assessing children's learning needs and identifying children at risk of underachieving in mathematical understanding and skill. Students will be required to plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences that effectively employ a range of pedagogies and resources (including digital technologies) to enhance children's mathematical thinking and communication.
