Science in Early Childhood

EDMT5558

Infants, toddlers and young children are naturally curious about the world around them, questioning, making assumptions and conducting experiments through play to determine how things work. This unit of study assists students to develop knowledge and skills in the teaching of science at the early childhood level. It provides students with the ability to help infants, toddlers and young children gain a foundational understanding of scientific concepts such as physics, biology, astronomy and technology as part of their everyday world. An emphasis is upon play as a vehicle for learning and family involvement in an inclusive and supportive learning environment for young children.
