Professional Studies 1 (Options) (EDMT5601)


This unit of study examines issues relevant to teaching in contemporary secondary schools. The unit consists of a series of lectures on issues such as making the transition to 'becoming a teacher', the role of popular culture in teacher identity, teaching standards, teacher professionalism and classroom management. The unit also explores issues relating to the health and wellbeing of students through a discussion of an array of contemporary youth health issues. Assessment in this unit require students to reflect on their life as learners, their transition to teacher education and their projected transition to teaching.
