Early Childhood Prof Experience 2 (EDMT6002)

UNIT OF STUDY

This is the second unit associated with Professional Experience in the Master of Teaching Early Childhood stream. The unit supports the learning and professional development of pre-service early childhood educators in a birth-2 setting. It is expected that students will draw on aspects of their knowledge acquired in other units in both this and previous semesters, which will enable them to observe infants and toddlers in their placement settings to develop context specific curriculum and document developmentally appropriate experiences for them based on their strengths and interests and in consultation with families.  In this Professional Experience students will be expected to take increasing responsibility for the planning within the room in consultation with families and their Cooperating Teachers, over the first three weeks of the block practicum.  Students will take full responsibility for the planning and reporting systems during the fourth week, consulting with families and the Cooperating Teacher as necessary. As preparation for their future roles as authorised supervisors and team leaders in early childhood settings, students will also undertake management tasks during this professional experience.
