Fundamentals of Management

MMGT5001

This unit is compulsory for students commencing the Master of Management who have not previously studied business. It is designed to introduce students to the concepts and context of management. It is also a zero fee and zero credit point unit. The unit explores the key functions and processes of management and encourages students to reflect critically on management theory and practice. It examines management as a process of planning, organising, leading and controlling organisational activity and discusses how recent trends such as globalisation, economic change and the effects of new technology have led to profound changes in how organisations are managed. It explores these issues with respect to public and private, for-profit and not-for-profit, large and small, and domestic and international organisations.
