Philosophy of Modern Physics
PHIL3622
In this unit we will look at quantum mechanics, through a study of its central paradoxes: the EPR situation, Schrˆdinger's Cat, Wave-Particle duality, etc. We will work through the book by R.I.G. Hughes, using Albert's book for some additional material. The unit will involve learning the mathematical basis for QM - though the level of mathematical sophistication required will not exceed ordinary high school mathematics. Relativity theory will be discussed only insofar as it bears upon the problem of interpreting quantum theory.
