The Honours program in Sociology and Social Policy consists of:1. a thesis written under the supervision of one or more members of academic staff;2. two seminars that meet weekly for two hours each during Semester 1.The thesis should be of 18000-20000 words in length. Each seminar requires 6000 words of written work or its equivalent. The thesis is worth 60% of the final Honours mark and each of the seminars is worth 20%.The following seminars are available to Honours students in 2013:SCLG 4011 Practising Sociology : This is a two hour workshop aimed at developing the practical skills you will need to complete an honours dissertation.SCLG 4012 Bridging Personal and Global Perspectives :The unit examines the legacy of binary classifications in modern sociology. Through an examination of theories and research on topics including the individual, families, communities, social capital , the unit explores the connections between micro-research and everyday life with larger-scale social processes.
