This unit of study provides an introductory framework to the diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients with tooth loss and diseases of the supporting tissues, namely periodontal diseases. Introductory laboratory and didactic sessions will provide student knowledge on the range of rehabilitation options available to replace lost teeth and bone, including partial and complete dentures and implants and the basic theory of dental occlusion. An introduction to the management of older patients and patients with special needs will also be included.
