This Unit of Study is split into three areas: Painting; Sculpture; PrintmediaPaintingThe aim in this studio is to consolidate the student's understanding of the critical debates surrounding painting at the beginning of the twenty-first century and to assist in developing a clearer understanding of the place of theirown work in this history.SculptureThe last module concentrates on personal presentation, promotion and professional practice with special emphasis on sculpture, performance and installation: appropriate avenues of exhibition, good grant writing, effective artist talks, publication facilitation (journals and catalogues), websites and attendance at festivals and other events. The module is geared at maximizing the potential of the artist as a professional in the public sphere.PrintmediaProfessional Practice: using a combination of formal lectures, student seminars and gallery visits, the unit helps students develop a clearer understanding of the relationship between their own art practice and the professional and public domains in which they intend to work. The roles of galleries, public funding, the Internet and other vocational contexts are surveyed.
