Temporary Accommodation

If your home is outside the Sydney Metropolitan area, you will need to organise temporary accommodation while you look for somewhere to live long term. We recommend you book some temporary accommodation before you arrive in Sydney, so you have somewhere to stay when you first arrive. It may take several weeks to find suitable accommodation.

On-campus casual and temporary accommodation

Some on-campus residential colleges offer casual accommodation to students and visitors during the mid-year vacation in July, and most colleges and Sydney University Village offer casual accommodation during the Christmas vacation. Visit their websites for information about vacancies, rates and to make your booking.

Temporary Homestay for international students
The University of Sydney has teamed with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to offer temporary homestay accommodation to newly-arrived international students. Ideally hosts will be University alumni, but may also be friends of alumni or other trained providers. Homestay is offered for the first two, three or four weeks following your arrival in Sydney, or even longer, if you and your homestay host wish.
