Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
Congratulations on joining our community. No matter what pathway led you into Sydney Uni or the path you want to follow while you are here, there are a range of support services and social activities to help you adapt to your new environment and succeed on your path.
We encourage you to attend the Orientation and Academic Skills program. This two-week program will help you develop your academic skills to give you the best possible start at university. The program also includes a number of social activities to enable you to meet fellow students so that you’ll know some friendly faces when you start at uni.

Once you start your studies we offer even more opportunities for support and engagement.
Ongoing support
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support team is located on level 5 of the Jane Foss Russell Building. Drop in to say hello, or give one of the officers a call to book an appointment if you have any concerns about your studies or just need to see a friendly face. These officers can give you advice about who to speak to, or where to go for help if you have a problem, and give you advice and guidance on how to reach your academic and personal potential.
Level 5 of the Jane Foss Russell building also has a computer room, where you can access the internet, and complete and print assignments.

Mentoring
Each year, the team runs a mentoring program for new students. First-year students are matched with a more senior student who will share their knowledge, skills and experience of university life with you and be someone you can contact for advice and guidance. Mentoring events are run over semesters one and two. We will provide information about the program at the Cadigal Orientation and Academic Skills event, and we will send all commencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students an email in March asking them to participate.
