Welcome to the University of Sydney and Australia!

We offer several programs to newly arriving international students that will help you adjust and make a smooth transition to your new institution and city.

At these sessions, you will meet our staff and other students, enjoy social activities and have the opportunity to ask questions about the University and life in Sydney.

There are a range of sessions that you can attend depending on your program of study:

All international students, all Study Abroad and Exchange students and full-degree international students are welcome to join the USU's Welcome to Sydney Party.


Study Abroad and Exchange students

Study Abroad and Exchange students study at the University of Sydney for six or twelve months and take their academic credit back to their home universities. If you are a Study Abroad and Exchange student, the Sydney Abroad team will be your point of contact for the duration of your study.

Meet and Greet Sessions

The Sydney Abroad team hold Meet and Greet Sessions between Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July 2015 that provide you with practical information about settling in Sydney.

Make sure you attend at least one Meet and Greet Session.

Study Abroad and Exchange Welcome

When: Monday 20 July 2015, 11am - 1pm
Where: The Great Hall, Quadrangle, Camperdown/Darlington Campus

This is the official event where you are welcomed to the University of Sydney. The welcome is followed by morning tea in the Quadrangle cloisters and lawns, before you attend your enrolment advising session in the afternoon.

Enrolment Advising Sessions

When: Monday 20 July 2015, 1pm - 4pm
Where: Footbridge Lecture Theatre, Camperdown/Darlington Campus

After the Study Abroad and Exchange Welcome, the enrolment advising session helps you find out all you need to know about your enrolment, how to add and drop units of study, timetabling and other important academic matters.

AFL Activities and BBQ Lunch

When: Tuesday 21 July 2015, 11.30am - 1.30pm
Where: The Square, Camperdown/Darlington Campus

All Study Abroad and Exchange students are invited and encouraged to join the AFL sports activities that take place at The Square to experience some unique Australian culture. A free BBQ lunch is provided by Sydney Uni Sports & Fitness (SUSF) during the festivities.


International Full Degree students

International full degree students complete either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at the University of Sydney.

As undergraduate and postgraduate international full degree students, you should attend the International Full Degree Student Welcome, as outlined below, which is followed by an afternoon of AFL sports activities, a BBQ lunch and free Sydney Day Trips.

You should also attend an International Student Arrival Information Session for practical information about the University services, student life in Sydney, as well as a free campus tour.

International Student Arrival Information Sessions

These sessions provide you with practical information to help you get settled in Sydney and ensure your first few weeks run as smoothly as possible. Staff and students present information about the University and explain key resources to assist you with your studies and settling into life in Sydney.

There will also be an opportunity for you to get answers to any questions you might have. You only need to attend one of these sessions.

The International Student Arrival Information Sessions include a free campus tour, that is followed by New to Sydney - Accommodation Information Sessions.

International Full Degree Student Welcome

When: Tuesday 21 July 2015, 10.30am - 1.30pm
Where: The Great Hall, Quadrangle, Camperdown/Darlington Campus

The international full degree student welcome officially introduces new students to the University of Sydney community. Both undergraduate and postgraduate international full degree students are invited to join this event.

AFL Activities and BBQ Lunch

All international students are invited and encouraged to join in the AFL sports activities that take place at The Square after the welcome, giving you a taste of Australian culture. A free BBQ lunch is provided by Sydney Uni Sports & Fitness (SUSF) during the festivities.

USU Sydney Day Trips

When: Tuesday 21 July 2015, 2pm–5pm (following the AFL activities and BBQ lunch after the International Full Degree Student Welcome)
Where: Students will be ushered to the meeting point for the USU Sydney Day Trips at the completion of the AFL activities and BBQ lunch.

The University of Sydney Union provide international students a free day trip to one of three locations in Sydney. Students can join a tour of Manly Beach, The Rocks or Darling Harbour.

To ensure your spot on one of these tours, make sure you register early .

You can also purchase an Access Card from the USU that provides you the opportunity to join clubs and societies and offers discounts across campus and free entry to USU events.

Welcome to Sydney Party for International Students

When: Thursday 23 July, 2015 at 7pm
Where: Manning Bar, Manning Road, Camperdown Campus

The USU hosts a welcome party for our new international students! It is a fun night with FREE entry, free food and great prizes to give away! If you are an ACCESS member, you will also get one free drink! If you're not a member yet, you can purchase an ACCESS card before the party at the International Student Lounge, or at the party before 10pm. This is a great opportunity for you to meet new friends before the semester starts so come along and have a great night!

Please remember to bring your passport along for identification.
