University welcome for new students
The University Welcome is the official start to the 2014 academic year and opens the Orientation Week program. The Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Students’ Representative Council and Union presidents, and the O-Week 2014 Directors will officially welcome you to the University of Sydney, and tell you about what 2014 holds for you as a student.
This event takes place in the magnificent Great Hall and begins with an academic procession.
We recommend you arrive 15 minutes early to get your seat before the welcome begins, and look out for our student ambassadors in their red t-shirts who can point you in the right direction.
Welcome to the University of Sydney and congratulations on joining our community of students, staff and alumni.
Orientation 2014 is designed to introduce you and the University to one another and provide helpful information and resources to ease your transition into university life. Over one week, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the diverse and vibrant university community by attending faculty and school welcomes, transition sessions and skills workshops. You’ll meet your faculty staff, your fellow students and peer mentors, and be introduced to the wide range of support available for you during your time here.
Meanwhile the University of Sydney Union’s O-Week program will introduce you to the clubs, societies and student facilities on campus. The first social events of the year will also take place and I encourage you to explore these opportunities to get involved in our wonderfully dynamic campus life.
The University of Sydney delivers a world-class student experience, and I encourage you to join in as much as possible. I look forward to meeting you at the University Welcome in the Great Hall on Wednesday 26 February.
