Rubber Dam
This half-day course combines two clinical techniques (Rubber Dam & Radiology) that are essential in modern dental practice but seem to cause many clinical problems. Disputes about treatment outcomes in endodontics often reveal clinical deficiencies in one or both of these areas. In restorative dentistry the rubber dam saves clinical time. It also provides the optimum environment for the placement of restorative materials, especially composite resin and glass ionomer restorations. The rubber dam is the ideal background when utilizing higher magnification with loupes or the operating microscope. In endodontics the use of rubber dam is mandatory in some states and territories, and is strongly recommended by every Dental Board in Australia and provider of dental indemnity insurance. This course will teach you rapid and simplified techniques of rubber dam application from single tooth isolation to quadrant dentistry in a full “hands on” environment complemented by seminars and reference material. This half-day course encourages a team approach with your chair side assistant, especially for rubber dam. Attendees will work together, alternating as operator and assistant in order to help you better utilize your dental assistant in placing rubber dam in your own practice.
Topics to be covered
- Choose between a clamp and clamp-less technique
- Select the correct clamp and weight of rubber dam for a given clinical situation
- Achieve single tooth isolation for endodontics in 30 seconds
- Isolate multiple teeth with a variety of techniques
- Recognize, prevent and repair rubber dam leaks
- Manage problems such as class V restorations and broken down teeth
Practical Radiology in Dental Practice
The second part of this course will introduce you to the new Rinn Snap A Ray DS and DS Endo holder and beam alignment device that may be used with analogue, digital or stored phosphor systems. This DS is the updated version of the highly popular and easy to use Snapex film holder designed by Dr. Steven Cohn over 30 years ago, and will be familiar to many dentists. The ability to take accurate and reproducible radiographs or digital images is a fundamental requirement for a successful dental practice. The objective of this part of the course is to demonstrate simple clinical techniques to achieve this aim for all teeth and under all clinical situations. Attendees must be willing to try the DS system on them selves and also have the rubber dam applied for the “hands on” part of the course dealing with endodontic treatment.
Topics to be covered
- Successfully image any part of the mouth
