Overview

Periodontal Surgery is an advanced level course in diagnosis, treatment planning and periodontal flap surgery, designed for practitioners familiar with the basics of periodontal treatment.

The first session includes explanation of recording of periodontal disease, diagnosis, cause-related therapy and principles of treatment planning.

In the second session, the group divides into three sets, each with a tutor, to analyse and plan treatment for selected cases. The group then reassembles to review those cases in open forum.

In the afternoon, principles and techniques of periodontal flap surgery are shown, and then participants complete hands-on surgery using the pig jaw model.

The day concludes with a discussion of objectives and perspectives of periodontal surgery.
