Our community

The Faculty of Dentistry community includes past and present members from the dental profession including:

  • Students and alumni
  • Teachers and honorary academics
  • Dental professionals engaged in continuing education
  • Researchers and funders of research
  • Policy makers in local and national health organisations
  • Donors (individuals and organisations)
  • Industry.

Our community is engaged, socially conscious, and always seeking new ways to learn by sharing best practice. This helps us continue to offer education of the highest calibre and conduct leading research, which translates to real-world impact. Through our professional associations, they are part of a lively, welcoming community with access to resources, real world advice and a large professional support network throughout their career. Our professional associations include:

  • The Dental Alumni Society for the University of Sydney (DASUS) is the official alumni association established in 1943. DASUS regularly hosts events to discuss and debate issues in the practice and to enable alumni to connect with their peers.
  • Sydney University Dental Association (SUDA) is the representative body for all Doctor of Dental Medicine, Bachelor of Oral Health and Bachelor of Dentistry students at the Faculty of Dentistry. Membership is automatic when you commence one of these courses and SUDA offers support and social opportunities for students.
  • The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health was established within Sydney Medical School in 2008. Its development heralded the beginning of a strong health partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to promote change and improve health and social-justice outcomes. The Faculty of Dentistry has worked with the Poche Centre to establish clinics in rural areas to address oral health need.
