New Eyes For Old Objects (NEFOO) - 3D models

As classes get ever larger, digital 3D models seem to promise greater access to our pressured and precious teaching collections outside of hours and without the need for staff supervision. But how much does it all cost? Who makes the models? How do we store them? How do we use them in teaching? Join us for a rundown of how FASS eLearning and Arts put together the 2018 pilot of the New Eyes For Old Objects (NEFOO) project from go to whoa, and to get ‘hands on’ with our digital collection!

Alix Thoeming is an Educational Designer working in the Educational Innovation portfolio. Also a sessional academic with the Archaeology department, and extensively involved with FASS Teaching and Learning, Alix was responsible for the implementation of the NEFOO project in the archaeology curriculum.

Bec Plumbe has worked in educational design for a really long time now, and for the last 10 years has been supporting staff in Arts & Social Science’s School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry. Recent fun projects have included 3D objects in Archaeology and text and data mining in History.

Frameworks for video-based assessment

Video creators require a distinct media literacy and should be proficient across a range of digital media production technologies. In some units of study, students are now being asked to submit video assignments for assessment. To ensure that everyone is suitably prepared for working in this medium, a support framework is necessary. This presentation will look at the development of such a framework for staff and students.

Sasha Cohen is an Educational Designer in the Faculty of Health Sciences (USYD), primarily working with multimedia to create engaging resources for teaching & learning. With a background in digital media, education and creative coding, he has also worked as a film-maker, photographer and interaction designer in the performing arts sector.
