Masterclass: Using discussion boards to enhance student learning

Wednesday 20 July 2016

Join us in this hands-on masterclass about enhancing student use of discussion boards. Posting, replying and reading posts in online discussions have been linked to better student outcomes, including end of semester grades and sense of community. Despite this, students report checking forums infrequently, and academics commonly report poor uptake of forums in many units of study.

Due to popular demand, we are running a masterclass where you’ll hear from academics in the Faculties of Science and Health Sciences about how they effectively use discussion boards to enhance student learning. Come and see a demonstration of new discussion board tools that you can use in your units of study, and receive strategies for encouraging student participation in, and engagement with, discussion forums.

This masterclass, a joint venture between the Educational Innovation team and the Faculties, will be run by Dr Danny Liu, Dr Jessica Frawley, Professor Adam Bridgeman, Dr Melanie Keep, and Dr Hong-Dao Nguyen. As this is a masterclass, some familiarity with discussion boards is assumed.

Please note: If you have already attended the workshop on discussion boards on 13 July as part of Dr Melanie Keep’s Educational Innovation Grant project, there is no need to sign up for this masterclass.
