Workshop: Applying the Teaching Practice Inventory at Australian Institutions

Wed 20 Jul 2016   2.00pm - 4.30pm

Abercrombie Business School H70 Seminar Room 3110

Join Professor Michael Drinkwater from the University of Queensland for a workshop to discuss details for using the Teaching Practices Inventory at other Australian universities and collaborate on designing some additional questions for our local context.

Background: The Wieman & Gilbert (2014) Teaching Practices Inventory (TPI) is a 72-item questionnaire that asks staff objective questions about the use of specific evidence-based practices in a course. It takes about 11 minutes to complete. See http://www.cwsei.ubc.ca/resources/TeachingPracticesInventory.htm. Wieman argues that program-level data like this are necessary to lead broad change in teaching practice. Some US universities are encouraging staff to use it in addition to student evaluations in the confirmation and promotion process. We used it to measure teaching practice in all our Semester 1 BSc courses at UQ last year.
