Dean's Advisory Board

The Sydney School of Education and Social Work Dean’s Advisory Board is a group of highly experienced individuals with diverse backgrounds who are actively engaged in dialogue with the school and knowledgeable in regard to the school’s needs. Members of the board act as a point of reference or counsel, assisting the dean in realising the school’s vision.

Board members, both individually and collectively, provide high-level strategic advice to the dean and others (and engage in vigorous debate and discussion where appropriate) on matters they believe contribute positively to decision-making by the school.

These matters may include:

  • contributing broad advice on developments, policies, high-level themes and issues in the fields of education, social work and social policy

  • providing high-level strategic and development guidance on research possibilities, undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, and professional development

  • providing consultation on the positioning of the school as a centre of excellence, in the national and international arena, in the fields of education, social work, social policy, teaching and research

  • recommending approaches to enhance school relations with alumni, government, agencies, educational institutions, NGOs and professional communities; and representing the school to these audiences in order to advance strategic objectives and initiatives

  • supporting formation of alliances between the school, academic institutions and the private, public and NGO sectors; including securing sponsors and contributors for school initiatives (teaching, research, infrastructure, etc).

While having no authority in the wider University, members of the board, in their various other capacities and their engagement with the school, will from time to time have contact with senior officers and participate in school committees and working groups in order to facilitate initiatives under consideration by the school.
