Dean's Advisory Board

The Faculty of Education and Social Work Dean’s Advisory Board is a group of highly experienced individuals with diverse backgrounds who are actively engaged in dialogue with the Faculty and knowledgeable of the Faculty’s needs. Members of the Board act as a point of reference or counsel, assisting the Dean in realising the Faculty’s vision.

Board members, both individually and collectively, provide high-level strategic advice to the Dean and others (and engage in vigorous debate and discussion where appropriate) on matters which they believe contribute positively to decision making by the Faculty.

These matters may include:

  • Contributing broad advice on developments, policies, high-level themes and issues in the fields of education, social work and social policy.
  • Providing high-level strategic and development guidance on research possibilities, undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, and professional development.
  • Providing consultation on the positioning of the Faculty as a centre of excellence, in the national and international arena, in the fields of education, social work, social policy, teaching and research.
  • Recommending approaches to enhance Faculty relations with alumni, government, agencies, educational institutions, NGOs and professional communities; and provide representation on behalf of the Faculty to further strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Supporting formation of alliances between the Faculty, academic institutions and the private, public and NGO sectors; including securing sponsors and contributors for Faculty initiatives (teaching, research, infrastructure, etc).

While having no authority in the wider University, members of the Board, in their various other capacities and their engagement with the Faculty, will from time to time have contact with senior officers and participate in Faculty committees and working groups in order to facilitate initiatives under consideration by the Faculty.
