Arts and Creative Education

Welcome to the homepage of the Arts and Creative Education research network (ACERN) in the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney. The network was set up in July 2014 and aims to actively develop partnerships with educators, schools, teachers, artists and others to develop a rich research culture in arts education and creative learning.

Aims of ACERN

The network aims to foster and support research and knowledge generation in arts and creativity education. The network will support researchers and their partners in schools, arts organisations and the community to deepen and extend the evidence base for understanding and learning about the arts and creativity in education.

Objectives of ACERN

The objectives of the network include, but are not limited to:

  • increasing collaborative research and scholarship opportunities

  • providing focus and specific opportunities for early-career researchers to build and enhance their publication and grant-development skills through mentoring from experienced members of the network

  • continuing to strengthen research partnerships and partnership activities with schools, professional arts organisations and community arts-based organisations

  • organising events including symposia, workshops and seminars that promote arts and creative learning research

  • advocating with state and national governments, corporate and arts-based organisations to promote funding, work and activities in relation to education, creativity and the and the creative and performing arts.
