Thesis title: Designing for Epistemic Agency: How student groups construct knowledge and what helps them do it

Supervisors: Lina MARKAUSKAITE , Peter GOODYEAR

Thesis abstract:

This ethnographic, case-based research will investigate how collaborating groups of tertiary students exercise epistemic agency, that is, how they employ deliberate actions to construct knowledge. This is not only how they work with knowledge—aggregate, analyse, synthesise and create—but also how students use self-organisation and management, in effect, how they create an infrastructure of collaboration. The research aims to improve learning design by investigating the complex interplay of student actions, constructed objects and the learning environment, including technologies used for communication and construction of knowledge.
