Paper title: Who's that girl sitting with the boys?" Negotiations of gender, age and appearance in fieldwork with adolescent boys

Rachel O’Brien graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Human Movement Health Education) (Hons 1) from the University of Sydney in 2013. Her PhD research, under the supervision of Associate Professor Sue Goodwin, is located at the intersection of health and physical education, gender and masculinities, and sociology of education employing a feminist perspective to examine boys’ understandings of becoming men. She wants to better understand the experiences and practices of elite schooling and the ‘making of men’ to explore classed and gendered inequalities. She is a passionate educator, working recently as a health and physical education teacher at Newington College and as a sessional tutor and lecturer at the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, and the University of Wollongong.
