Orientation and Induction Program for new HDR students

At the beginning of each semester, the school arranges an induction program for all students enrolling in the PhD, EdD, DSW, MPhil, and MEd(Research) degrees.

Orientation and Induction Day

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) induction day will be held on:

Date: Wednesday 2 August 2017
Time: 9.15am-3.15pm
Venue: New Law Common Room, Level 4. New Law School (map)

This event will introduce you to a range of strategies and resources for successfully completing higher degree research at the University of Sydney. It will also give you some pointers on how to make the most of your experience as a higher degree student.

You will have the opportunity to hear from and speak with a range of people, including:

  • Associate Dean Postgraduate Research
  • research students in their second and third years, and
  • faculty academic research supervisors

Representatives from:

  • the HDRAC
  • Fisher Library
  • Human Ethics
  • Research Data Management

Induction Seminar for the Sydney School of Education and Social Work HDRS

For: Newly enrolled HDR students in the SSEDSW
Date: Friday 11 August 2017
Time: 4-6pm (light refreshments will be provided)
Venue: Room 612, Education Building A35

This seminar is targeted specifically to research students in the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, and will focus on research training, candidature requirements and resources available at school level.

Walking Tour


Newly enrolled HDR students who have not studied at the SSESW previously

Foyer, (Level 3), Education Building A35


Email Suin Jung at least two working days prior to the date.

If you are new to the SSESW, our walking tours may help you physically orientate yourself around the Education Building A35 and Education Annex A36. The tours are identical; there is no need to attend both dates. The walking tour will visit:

  • part-time research students' offices
  • communal areas for research students
  • emergency exits/after-hours building access entry points
  • photocopier rooms
  • and other places of relevance for research students
