Secondary teaching
A degree in secondary education is the typical tertiary qualification for work in Australian secondary schools, where graduates may find employment as classroom teachers, as well as in various levels of educational management within the school, including student welfare, curriculum development, year adviser, faculty master, principal and assistant principal.
Secondary-school teachers usually specialise in two subject areas, although some areas involve specialisation either in that area alone. All teacher-training courses at the University of Sydney are offered conditionally, depending on adequate enrolments, and may be withdrawn if insufficiently subscribed. Currently, students can study to become qualified to teach:
physical education (Human Movement and Health Education) |
science (including physics, biology and chemistry) |
social sciences (including geography, history and economics/business studies) |
music (available at the University of Sydney only through Sydney Conservatorium of Music) |
