Assessing group work

The type of assessment task you choose will depend on:

  • your reasons for assessing
  • the learning outcomes
  • the Unit of Study subject matter.

Assessment tasks can be adapted to be more challenging, for example by increasing complexity or by converting an individual task to require critical group thinking. Students can be encouraged to:

  • use abstract principles
  • seek out and use multiple theories, methods or perspectives
  • break the task into subparts
  • pull together subparts into a coherent analysis.
