Planning/Designing an assessment schedule

When planning and designing your assessment schedule you should consider:

  • the Unit of Study learning outcomes and what type of tasks will achieve these outcomes. You may need a variety of tasks to thoroughly assess the range of knowledge and skills
  • the number of tasks. This will partially determine the weighting of individual tasks. Also consider the breakdown of components within group tasks.
  • the timing of assessment tasks and their due dates (in your Unit of Study and across other units)
  • additional relevant skills and processes that could be included
  • supporting group tasks with individual tasks
  • the specific needs of the student cohort (see catering for student diversity)
  • involving students in the assessment process (see self and peer assessment).

Remember to relate the tasks to the subject matter being taught, linking each task to the Unit of Study learning outcomes.
