Tips for preparing yourself

Here are some tips for preparing yourself for group work:

  • Revisit your Unit of Study outline. Will group work enhance the learning processes and meet the unit outcomes? Where might group work fit in and how can it be added to the unit?
  • Make Unit of Study outcomes explicit.
  • Use the principles of constructive alignment when designing or re-evaluating the Unit of Study outline.
  • Consider incorporating Graduate Student Attributes in the Unit of Study outline (see examples by Black, 2005).
  • Have teaching materials prepared, group task activities clearly explained, assessment requirements developed and a plan for managing groups and individuals.
  • Start small - aim for the quality integration of group work rather than quantity.
