Join us for a celebration of human rights and democracy innovation as we officially launch the new Institute for Democracy and Human Rights. Guests will have the opportunity to hear keynote speaker Professor Hilary Charlesworth as well as meet leading human rights and democracy thinkers from the University of Sydney and University of Western Sydney.
The event will showcase our flagship Master of Human Rights and Democratisation program, with over 30 students from 23 countries in the Asia-Pacific attending in their traditional dress. After the formalities there will be drinks and dancing to welcome our new Institute to the human rights and democracy community of Australia and the Asia-Pacific.
Established in 2012, the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights is a innovative cross-institutional collaboration between leading human rights and democratisation thinkers led by the University of Sydney and the University of Western Sydney.
The Master of Human Rights and Democratisation is one of the IDHR’s current flagship programs. Run by a consortium of five universities across the Asia-Pacific, the Program has enrolled over 100 committed young people working at the cutting edge of human rights and democratisation across Asia and the Pacific.
This event will provide an opportunity to welcome you to the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights and for you to interact with the IDHR scholars, MHRD students, members of the University community, alumni, friends and human rights organisations in Australia.
