Foundations of Leadership & Policy in Mental Health - Short Course

Be a leader in mental health service and policy development through understanding of best practice management, development of strategy, organisational-level policy, and governance for achieving change in mental health.

Registration for the course closes August 1.

This short course will provide you with:

  • an overview of key concepts and models of leadership and change management
  • an understanding of your own leadership attributes and development needs
  • knowledge of how to be a leader in the area of mental health service and policy development
  • best practice change management in the context of mental health reform in Australia
  • insights into the development of strategy, organisational-level policy, and governance for achieving change

You will have the opportunity to apply these key concepts to a personal leadership development plan, providing the foundations for self-development as a leader and the development of service-level change and reform initiatives.


Concepts covered include:

  • introduction to leadership and its importance to reform in the mental health sector
  • what makes a good leader?
  • personal effectiveness, communication and influence
  • leadership strategy, organisational culture, change management
  • leadership and governance

Course dates

3–4 August

21–22 September

1 November

Participants are required to attend all five dates. Friday and Saturdays 9am–5pm, Sundays 9am–12.30pm.
