Drama-based pedagogy interactive seminar

ACTIVATING LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS

5 June 2015

A special presentation by the Arts and Creative Education Research Network.

Renowned US researcher Katie Dawson will facilitate this one-time opportunity to discuss research from the Drama for Schools (DFS) program she directs for the University of Texas at Austin.

This audience-participation seminar, which immediately follows a two-hour workshop, will discuss how reflection permeates an artist’s work. From an initial imaginative spark of inspiration – to the deliberate choice of interpretation, the ongoing process of revision, and reception of the work – reflection feeds each choice in the artistic process. Dr Dawson will invite teaching artists to consider the power and potential of reflective practice and raise fundamental questions about the complex intentions, relationships and function of the drama/theatre teaching artist in school, community and professional theatre settings.
