Talent development in football presentation workshop

30 November 2015Register to attend

An Athlete Development and Performance research network workshop

This workshop will provide an overview of Australian data collected over the past 12 months in relation to player development and coaching practice. This will be discussed in relation to most up-to-date research within the talent and coach development area.

Participants will be given an overview of the current perceptual-cognitive abilities of the elite youth players and also the amount of time players are investing in sport-specific activities during their development. We will look at this in relation to research findings from other football nations to enable attendees to identify where Australia and their own coaching experience sits on the global football scale.

The presenters will provide an overview of what a typical football session in Australia looks like in relation to coaching methods, activities and player engagement.

The workshop with culminate with a report of the researchers' recent visit to leading European club football academies Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, Ajax Amsterdam and Everton, as well as their experience of the Belgium TopSportSchool System and resulting thoughts and examples of strategies for player development and coaching.
