Using video in academic research

16 March 2016

An Arts and Creative Education Research Network event with Dr Anne Harris

This workshop will explore video as an evolving tool, method, and methodology in academic research by guiding participants through examples of video research and analyses.

Presenter Dr Anne Harris will draw on her recent book, Video as Method, which was written to provide researchers with a guide to understanding the multiple approaches, uses and designs available for conducting and disseminating video-based research.

Dr Harris will argue that the greatest strength of choosing video as a research method is its flexible and almost limitless potential for gathering, analysing, writing up and disseminating multisensory findings. Understanding the rich potential of video as both a method and methodology is a process inextricably linked to epistemological, study design, analysis and dissemination choices. As technology and media have evolved, video has become both a primary tool of presenting information and simultaneously a means of information- and culture-making.
