Towards institutional adoption of learning analytics

2 March 2018

A Centre for Research on Learning and Innovation seminar.

The practice of "learning analytics" promises to enhance learning and teaching by providing teachers and students with insights into learning engagement and progression. However, the adoption of learning analytics is beset with challenges faced by various stakeholders. These must be addressed strategically if the benefits of approach are to be harnessed on a broad scale.

In this seminar, Dr Yi-Shan Tsai – who will be visiting Sydney from Edinburgh University to attend the 2018 International Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK) Conference – will discuss the approach to learning analytics at her university, including; the achievements so far, encountered barriers, and learnt lessons. As well, Dr Tsai will present findings from the Support Higher Education to Integrate Learning Analytics (SHEILA) project, a European initiative that has developed a rigorous policy framework based on direct engagement with learning-analytics stakeholders, including senior managers, teaching staff and students. She will talk about interests and concerns about learning analytics among these stakeholders, and the implications for a systematic and large-scale adoption of learning analytics.
