Being an effective mentor
Because being a mentor to a fellow adult is different from being a teacher to students, it is worthwhile to examine our mentoring practice to gauge whether it reflects current best practice in this area. Several excellent web resources have been developed recently to assist teachers to do this.
- Free online professional learning support for teachers involved in the supervision of preservice teachers has been provided by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership to assist in the understanding of how to apply the national standards at the graduate teacher level.
- The Project Evidence team have compiled a great set of video resources and activities that bring the national professional standards for teachers to life.
- The Authentic Assessment for Professional Experience project has developed an toolbox to help supervising teachers moderate the graduate level of the national professional standards for teachers developed by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.
