The Middle Years of Schooling

Issues and Responsibilities

Friday 3 April OR Tuesday 1 December 2009 9am–3.30pm

This workshop will outline the key issues, as identified in current research, which are challenging middle schooling. Strategies for dealing with these issues, based on research and the presenter's experience from the AGQTP and the MYAR projects, will be explored. Workshop topics will include:

  • Learning needs and effective learning strategies with middle years learners
  • Research on problems of middle school learners and strategies to address these
  • New learnings and implementation strategies of schools successfully facing middle schooling issues
  • Behaviour and classroom management of middle years students, and
  • Research in relation to brain growth and its implications for learning and teaching in middle school years.


Participants will be invited to present examples/documentation from their own context to address transition and other middle school issues.
