Exploring the Games & Sports and Gymnastics Strands in K–6 PE
Friday 20 August 2010 | 9am4pm
Children's early experiences of physical education and sport are pivotal in the development of positive attitudes toward physical activity, yet research suggests that many children miss out on quality physical education experiences in primary school.
This course will be structured into two sessions. The morning will focus on teaching the Games & Sports Strand content through a range of pedagogical approaches (eg FMS and Games Sense). The afternoon will address the safety issues and risk management requirements for effective teaching of the content in the Gymnastics Strand. Together these sessions aim to enhance generalist and PDHPE specialist primary teachers' knowledge and skills to facilitate best teaching practices for student learning in K–6 PE.
