Health and Wellbeing in Early Childhood

Friday 17 September 2010 | 9am–4pm

This one day course for early childhood teachers and carers will use the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (2009) document to address a range of personal development, health and physical education issues and subject matter as they relate to the early childhood setting. Participants will:

  • analyse and discuss healthy eating and physical activity guidelines for early childhood
  • plan for and participate in physical activity that develops gross motor skills
  • examine health and safety issues including hygiene, infection control, allergies, anaphylaxis education and strategies, and explore guidelines to keep the environment safe for all
  • apply the principles of early childhood pedagogy through a play-based curriculum to health and wellbeing, and
  • collaboratively design a centre-based policy that supports health, safety and wellness in early childhood.
