Expanding Understandings of K–6 Personal Development & Health

Thursday 19 August 2010 | 9am–4pm

This course offers generalist and PDHPE specialist primary school teachers a chance to extend their pedagogies of personal development and health, including areas of 'sensitive' subject matter. Issues explored will cut across four content strands in the PDHPE K–6 syllabus: Growth & Development, Personal Health Choices, Safe Living and Interpersonal Relationships. Participants will:

  • explore a range of classroom strategies and techniques for addressing sensitive issues
  • examine and discuss a range of health and personal development school and government policies
  • participate in and modify a range of classroom activities for relationships education, sexualities education and Child Protection education, and
  • evaluate a variety of teaching resources.
