Strengthen Your Strategies for Teaching ESL Students

WORKSHOP 1: RESOURCES AND STRATEGIES

Tuesday 6 September 2011 | 9am–4pm
This workshop for teachers across the curriculum addresses the frustration and disengagement many ESL students experience when reading and writing in a language that is not their L1 (first language). Participants will be provided with resources that can be used in their classrooms or used as models for personal task design; and assisted to develop strategies that will support active learning and engagement with these students. (NSWIT Course Code C08580)

WORKSHOP 2: DESIGNING TASKS

Tuesday 13 September 2011 | 9am–4pm
(It is not essential that participants have attended Workshop 1, but knowledge acquired in the previous workshop will be of great assistance.) This workshop explores the choice and design of appropriate tasks and lessons that address ESL and literacy needs – particularly relating to the pressures that the NAPLAN has imposed on schools – and bridge gaps of student understanding and participation. By the end of this workshop participants should take away tasks that are ready to use in their classrooms. (NSWIT Course Code C08581)
