This full-day course begins by identifying the strategies that support comprehension and seeing what else needs to be taught to students K6 to help them learn to read (reading processes, contexts for reading, reading conventions, word identification strategies, and the information process).
We'll view videos showing how teachers focus on teaching comprehension strategies during modelled, shared, guided and independent reading. Then we'll complete a series of tasks, which students can complete independently of the teacher, which reinforce understandings around comprehension.
Robyn Wild has worked for the NSW Department of Education and Training as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, literacy consultant and senior curriculum officer in the Early Learning Unit. She works part-time at Macquarie University in the Education Faculty and the Institute of Early Childhood, and at the University of Sydney.
