This course will provide participants with an overview of some key principles and strategies for teaching and using digital media in the K–6 classroom. Digital media is part of the larger social and cultural experiences for most primary school students. Students need to be able to understand, enjoy, as well as critique and create what they see, hear and consume.

By considering some of the concepts around new literacies and multiliteracies, the course will contextualise the development of participants' technical skills using various software and web 2.0 tools. This module will develop participants skills in using web 2.0 learning environments, visual, audio, movie and multimedia software, combined with a set a digital resources. Issues of literacy skills, the national education context, copyright, classroom activities and critical literacy will also be considered. The module will enable participants to develop, share and reflect upon digital, student-centred teaching and learning resources for use across the curriculum.
