Master of Education: Assessment Literacy for School Teachers (EDPZ6011)

Available Semester One 2018.

This unit of study, when paired with the Semester Two unit, EDPZ6012 (see below), provides a basic introduction to what teachers need to know – and can do – to assess students effectively and maximise learning. Assessment Literacy for School Teachers focuses on standards and examines the characteristics of standards-referenced systems, underpinned by a measurement model. More particularly, it considers the use of standards in giving meaning to results; and considers ways to interpret data from performance measures such as the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), and Year 12 high-stakes assessment programs, so that the measures can be used to improve student learning.

Master of Education: Data Literacy for School Teachers (EDPZ6012)

Available Semester Two 2018.

In this unit of study, "data literacy" is broadly defined as the ability to understand and use data effectively to inform teaching and learning decisions. The unit has been developed for accredited, practising school teachers and NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) accredited teachers, who are Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia. It may, however, also be undertaken by international students who are accredited teachers in their home countries, and who are given special approval to enrol.
