Course requirements

To qualify for the award of Master of Education (TESOL), a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:

  • a minimum of 24 credit points of core units
  • a minimum of 6 credit points of capstone units
  • a maximum of 12 credit points from outside the TESOL designation.

To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (TESOL), a candidate must complete 36 credit points, including:

  • a minimum of 24 credit points of core units
  • a maximum of 6 credit points from outside the TESOL designation.

To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (TESOL), a candidate must complete 24 credit points, including:

  • a minimum of 12 credit points of core units.

Master of Education (TESOL) students may choose up to two units of study from the following, which are offered by the Department of Linguistics:

Capstone units of study

Master’s candidates must complete either the Special Project (6 credit points) or the Dissertation (12 credit points), normally in their final semester of enrolment. Students who intend to undertake a higher degree by research (MPhil, PhD or EdD) in the future should enrol in the Dissertation, which has minimum enrolment standards.
