Course requirements

Master’s candidates are required to complete 48 credit points, including:

  • at least 12 credit points of core units
  • a minimum of 6 credit points of capstone units
  • a maximum of 12 credit points from those offered by the University outside the Sydney School of Education and Social Work.

Graduate Diploma candidates are required to complete 36 credit points, including:

  • at least 12 credit points of core units
  • a maximum of 6 credit points from those offered by the University outside the Sydney School of Education and Social Work.

Graduate Certificate candidates are required to complete 24 credit points, including:

  • 12 credit points of core units.

Capstone units of study

Master’s candidates are required to complete SCWK6908 or EDPZ6730 (both 6 credit points) or the Dissertation (12 credit points), normally in their final semester of enrolment. Students who intend to undertake a higher degree by research (MPhil, PhD or EdD) in the future should enrol in the Dissertation, which has minimum enrolment standards. All master's students are advised to download and read carefully the Master's Dissertation Submission Instructions (doc, 782kB) and Master's Dissertation Package (pdf, 598kB) before applying to enrol in their capstone unit/s.
