Course requirements

To qualify for the award of Master of Social Work, a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:

  • 12 credit points of core units; and
  • a minimum of 6 credit points of capstone units.

To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Social Work, a candidate must complete 36 credit points, including:

  • 12 credit points of core units.

Master’s candidates must complete either SCWK6908 (6 credit points) or the Dissertation (12 credit points), normally in their final semester of enrolment. Students who intend to undertake a higher degree by research (MPhil, PhD or EdD) in the future should enrol in the Dissertation, which has minimum enrolment standards. All master's students are advised to download and read carefully the Master's Dissertation Submission Instructions (doc, 782kB) and Master's Dissertation Package (pdf, 598kB) before applying to enrol in their capstone unit/s.
