What is a disability?

The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 provides a definition of 'disability'.

Carers, relatives and associates of people with a disability are also protected against being discriminated against or harassed because of these associations.

For further information on disability please refer to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The website provides public information on topics related to disability and the work of the United Nations for persons with disabilities. Australia is a signatory of the Convention.
