2010 Humanities and Social Sciences Projects

Chinese Studies 3rd year sites
The existing Year 3 undergraduate online units will be enhanced with materials based on the design of learning sequences and associated quizzes created for the Chinese 1101 and 1102 units in 2009.

Teaching Modules on Autism
Modules on understanding and teaching students with high support needs will be developed. These will have the flexibility to be configured in various ways for different student cohorts including undergraduates, postgraduates and short intensives. This project will continue work started in 2009.

SCA Foundation Studies Program Site
A program site for first year Foundation students will be developed that will provide a centralised information and communication point.

Case Analysis Tool for Legal Studies
A resource of legal cases containing information and multiple choice questions with formative feedback will be created. It will test students’ understanding of how to analyse and build a case report using standard referencing conventions.

Music Education Program (Music Practicum Stage 4)
The existing site GENS4003 will be reworked in line with the new music education curriculum. A classroom management activity for advanced students will be developed that is a continuation of those created for MUED2605 and MUED3602 in previous project periods.

Mental Health Practice Standards Undergraduate Site
An undergraduate version of the existing fully online unit SCWK6920 (Mental Health Practice Standards) will be created but catering to blended face-to-face and online mode. This will require a thorough reworking of the content and assessment items to suit students who have no clinical experience.

Field Education
Redevelopment of the 3rd and 4th year Field Education portfolio assessments will be undertaken according to the outcome of a review and needs analysis funded by a 2009 TIES grant. The reworked assessments will be piloted using the Pebble Pad eportfolio.

Learning Centre Student Self-assistance Resource
An online resource will be developed which will assist students to locate the range of materials and workshops available to assist them with their academic writing problems. An associated discussion forum moderated by Learning Centre staff members will answer questions and develop a bank of FAQs that students may access.
