Migration to the new University Learning Mangement System
Sydney eLearning carried out the migration of more than 2282 pre-existing sites from the WebCT LMS to the new Blackboard LMS and checked them for usability. In addition, a number of large and/or complex sites were partially rebuilt in the new LMS to recapture the original pedagogical intent. During the migration period, new customised templates were designed for a number of faculties, departments and programs.
Sydney eLearning also developed and facilitated workshops to assist academics in designing and managing their learning and teaching online. Over 380 staff attended workshops held in 2011.
Stage 1 rollout of University ePortfolios
The University purchased a licence for the PebblePad ePortfolio software. Sydney eLearning assisted academics from faculties including Education and Social Work, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Nursing, Science and Medicine to design reflective tasks for students and incorporate ePortfolios in their teaching.
Introduction of eCommunities
Online sites in the University LMS that allow self-enrolment of users and extended access for non-assessment purposes (e.g. information repositories, shared resources) were made available to the eLearning community.
Mobile learning applications
The mobile app that allows use of the LMS on mobile devices (Apple and Android) was purchased and piloted in 2011. Information on downloading a mobile app for the University of Sydney LMS.
Library Skills website
The eSearch to Research library skills site, which was originally a Humanities and Social Sciences project outcome, was redesigned in the University Content Management System (CMS) and updated with additional materials. The site is publicly available to all students from the Library website at www.library.sydney.edu.au/skills/tutorials/esearch
